As controller for American Baptist Home Mission Societies (ABHMS), Alma Anastas Hazboun is a steward of funds that are donated to the organization for the purpose of carrying out important life-transforming ministry. Committed to ensuring that funds are appropriately used to fulfill intended ministry projects, she says that she feels privileged to be part of an organization that is dedicated to improving the lives of individuals across the United States and Puerto Rico.
“The humanitarian and religious aspects of ABHMS provide me with satisfaction and fulfillment,” she says.
While Hazboun’s financial management experience has been mainly in private sector manufacturing and services, her service as a board member of a local chapter of the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund—a nonprofit organization dedicated to treating children in the Middle East who lack access to appropriate medical care—inspired her to pursue a career in the nonprofit world.
“My experience gives me the ability to manage the finances of ABHMS and Judson Press as I would in the for-profit world, with the added controls of the nonprofit world,” she says.
Hazboun’s goals are to see ABHMS’ financial procedures become automated and its finance department go paperless.
In her leisure time, Hazboun enjoys traveling. Among the places she visits is a South Pacific island where one of her siblings resides.
She notes: “I like to visit new places and experience new cultures.”
