Faith. Culture. Community. Leadership.

ABHMS’ Asian Ministries walks alongside Asian American Baptist congregations as they nurture faith, develop leaders, and strengthen communities nationwide.

Rooted in immigrant and diaspora communities, this ministry celebrates the vibrant cultural and linguistic diversity that enriches the American Baptist family.

Over 150 Asian and Asian American Baptist congregations and fellowship groups are part of the denomination, along with hundreds of Burmese diaspora churches.

These congregations form a mosaic of cultures and languages: Japanese, Filipino, Chinese, Korean, Indian, Burmese, Chin, Karen, Kachin, Vietnamese, Thai, Laotian, Cambodian, and many others who worship and serve within this network, representing more than 28 languages and dialects.

Asian Ministries strengthens these communities through leadership development, discipleship formation, partnership building, and advocacy for Asian American concerns within the broader church and society.

How Asian Ministries serves churches and faith leaders

Leadership Development

Asian Ministries nurtures both pastoral and lay leadership by encouraging emerging leaders, supporting ministers, and helping congregations develop the next generation of faithful servants.

Discipleship and Faith Formation

Through gatherings, training opportunities and shared learning, the ministry helps congregations deepen discipleship and strengthen Christian witness within diverse cultural contexts.

Networking and Bridge Building

Asian Ministries connects churches and leaders across different ethnic and language communities. These relationships promote mutual encouragement, shared learning, and collaboration within the broader American Baptist family.

Partnerships and collaboration

Asian Ministries works in close partnership with the Alliance of Asian American Baptist Churches, strengthening ties among congregations and supporting shared mission initiatives.

The ministry also collaborates with ABHMS’ broader Intercultural Ministries network to nurture relationships across cultures and communities.

Learning opportunities and gatherings

Throughout the year, Asian Ministries hosts trainings, gatherings, and events designed to strengthen leaders and foster mutual learning across the Asian American diaspora and the wider church community.

These opportunities invite pastors, lay leaders, and congregations to grow together in faith, leadership, and mission.
