Judson Press releases new book by critically acclaimed biblical scholar, author

VALLEY FORGE, PA (ABNS 3/1/19)—From H. Stephen Shoemaker, M.Div., Ph.D.—author of the critically acclaimed “GodStories: Scriptural Narratives for Today”—comes “Seekers, Saints and Sinners: Life-changing Encounters with Jesus.”

Through the 10 beautifully written chapters of “Seekers, Saints and Sinners,” Shoemaker tells of Jesus’ one-time, chance encounters with 11 other individuals from the Gospel narratives. Built on a foundation of solid scholarship, the book is a profound and comprehensive New Testament Bible study on the significance of Jesus’ conversations, including the historical and literary context.

In addition, inspirational insight allows a reader to meet Jesus anew in the life of featured scriptural figures as well as to bring those encounters home to meet the living Christ in his or her own life today. Ideal for personal or small-group study, the book includes a guide to enhance reflection and discussion.

An assistant professor of Religion at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, N.C., Shoemaker previously taught at Wake Forest Divinity School, Winston-Salem, N.C., and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, Ky. In addition to “GodStories” (Judson Press, 1998), Shoemaker’s books include “Jesus Stories: Traveling toward Testimony” (Judson Press, 2016).
