ABHMS announces ecclesiastical endorser for chaplains, other specialized ministries

VALLEY FORGE, PA (ABNS 10/10/18)—American Baptist Home Mission Societies (ABHMS) Executive Director Dr. Jeffrey Haggray has named the Rev. Dr. Patricia Murphy ecclesiastical endorser for chaplains and those serving in other specialized ministry settings. The appointment occurred during ABHMS’ annual meeting of the Ecclesiastical Endorsement Committee recently in Chicago.

As ecclesiastical endorser, Murphy will serve as the official American Baptist representative to ministry professionals requiring endorsement in ecumenical partnering organizations, including the armed services, correctional facilities, hospitals and higher learning institutions.

“ABHMS is godly proud of our long and distinguished history of endorsing highly competent chaplains to serve in various institutions and communities,” Haggray says. “As ecclesiastical endorser, Dr. Murphy will continue that legacy in a very professional manner.”

In addition to serving as ecclesiastical endorser, Murphy will continue in her role as ABHMS national coordinator of Chaplaincy and Specialized Ministries.

An American Baptist-endorsed chaplain, Murphy has more than 10 years of experience as Protestant and palliative care chaplain, bio-medical ethics consultant, bereavement and crisis-support counselor, National Association of Mental Health Associate and co-chair of the Joint Labor Management Committee, all for NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island, Brooklyn. Among her many previous other roles, she had also been associate pastor at Calvary Baptist Church, Queens, N.Y., and an adjunct professor of Theology at New York Theological Seminary, New York City.
