ABHMS announces cancellation of Space for Grace, chaplaincy conferences

VALLEY FORGE, PA (4/9/20)—American Baptist Home Mission Societies (ABHMS) regrets to announce that the Space for Grace 2020 national conference—Testify!—and the Chaplaincy, Pastoral Counselors and Specialized Ministries Conference will not take place.

The conferences were scheduled for Sept. 21–25 at the Westin Kansas City (Mo.) at Crown Center. ABHMS felt it prudent to cancel the events because of the health and safety, travel, economic and logistical challenges confronting our nation by the coronavirus pandemic as well as governmental and health officials’ recommendations that individuals remain at home if at all possible.

No plans are underway to reschedule the conferences later in 2020. Because Space for Grace is currently sponsored every two years, ABHMS has reserved the Westin Kansas City at Crown Center for Sept. 19–23, 2022.

Because of the disruption and delays created by the spread of COVID-19, ABHMS did not launch registration for the conference; therefore, no conference or hotel reservations were accepted by ABHMS for this event. ABHMS advises anyone that had previously made personal travel or hotel reservations for Kansas City related to Space for Grace 2020 to make necessary cancellations. ABHMS is in conversation with speakers, workshop presenters and others to cancel their participation.
