Space for Grace & Spiritual Caregivers Conference
A gathering that offers renewal
Space for Grace & Spiritual Caregivers Conference is ABHMS’ signature national gathering. More than just an event, it engages ministry professionals with openness, humility, and grace.
Since its inception in 2015, Space for Grace has brought together diverse voices for honest discussions about Christian leadership, discipleship, and justice. Over time, the Spiritual Caregivers Conference became part of this shared experience, expanding the gathering to include chaplains, pastoral counselors, and specialized ministers intentionally.
Together, these streams create a dynamic space—one rooted in reflection, learning, and relationships—where those in ministry pause from their work to listen more deeply—to each other and to God.
Why it matters
Ministry often unfolds in places where questions are complex and needs are urgent. Those who serve not only bear responsibility but also the quiet burden of guiding others through moments of vulnerability and change.
Space for Grace creates room within that reality.
Each gathering encourages participants to reconnect with their own story within God’s larger story—allowing space for renewal, healing, and a clearer sense of calling.
Equally important, the conference exemplifies a way of being with others: engaging differences with grace, listening carefully, and staying present even when perspectives differ. This isn't an abstract ideal. It is a practice that influences how ministry is lived out in the days ahead.
What to expect
While each gathering is influenced by its time and theme, the experience of Space for Grace maintains a steady rhythm—one that balances engagement with reflection and learning with rest.
Participants encounter:
Plenary sessions and dynamic voices that address the realities of ministry today
Practical workshops providing insights that carry into everyday ministry
Opportunities for meaningful connections where relationships develop across different contexts and experiences
Moments of worship, reflection, and rest that nurture the spiritual lives of those who serve
Conversations that cross boundaries, encouraging thoughtful engagement with differences
Themes such as intergenerational faith, spiritual care, and the power of story have shaped recent gatherings. Each has opened new perspectives for seeing, listening, and supporting others in ministry.
Who it is for
Space for Grace attracts a wide and interconnected community of ministry practitioners, including:
Pastors and ministry leaders
Chaplains, pastoral counselors, and spiritual caregivers
Faith-based nonprofit leaders
Seminary students, educators, and those preparing for ministry
Anyone drawn to the intersection of faith, story, and transformation
What unites participants is not a single role, but a shared calling—to be present with others in ways that are attentive, compassionate, and grounded in faith.
A continuing invitation
Each Space for Grace gathering is guided by a central theme, but the deeper invitation remains the same: to listen carefully, to learn with humility, and to live more fully into the grace, love, and mercy of Jesus Christ.
Participants often find that the experience does not end when the gathering concludes. It continues through the practices they adopt, the relationships they nurture, and the renewed clarity they gain for their work.
And eventually, the invitation will come again.
