Two Judson Press books named Next Generation Indie Book Awards finalists
VALLEY FORGE, PA (ABNS 5/31/19)—Judson Press is pleased to announce that “Black Millennials & the Church: Meet Me Where I Am” and “Justice for Rizpah’s Children: Radical Responses to Childhood Poverty” have been recognized as finalists in the 2019 Next Generation Indie Book Awards.
A finalist in the African American Category, “Black Millennials & the Church: Meet Me Where I Am” (2018) offers a unique mix of humor, illustrations and findings based on a nationwide research study of black young adults. The practical resource provides a profile of black millennials that will help churches continue to effectively attract and make disciples of this emerging generation. Drawing on the biblical narrative of Matthew 14, in which Jesus invites Peter to meet him on the water, this book includes specific ministry principles and programming proposals for use in the local congregation. It was written by Joshua L. Mitchell, M.Div., D.Min., minister to youth and college students at Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church, Houston, Texas.
“Justice for Rizpah’s Children: Radical Responses to Childhood Poverty” (2019) was a finalist in the Social Issues Category. The book seeks to move readers beyond awareness to intentional engagement in effecting justice in response to the challenge of childhood poverty in the United States. Featuring the voices of parents, grandparents, caregivers and children, each chapter highlights community organizations whose diverse efforts are focused on alleviating the impact of poverty in America. It was authored by Marilyn P. Turner-Triplett, M.Div., D.Min., American Baptist Home Mission Societies director of Healing and Transforming Communities, which includes the Rizpah’s Children ministry that she founded.
“Receiving the Indie Award finalist designation is quite a recognition for these authors and will raise awareness of their significant contributions to readers and leaders seeking to change the world in the name of Jesus Christ,” says Laura Alden, publisher of Judson Press.
