Award-winning Judson Press editor releases new book on women in Scripture
VALLEY FORGE, PA (ABNS 2/5/19)—Award-winning editor Deborah Spink Winters, Ph.D., wants women who are feeling overlooked, misjudged or unappreciated to know that they are not alone. In her new book, “Marginalized, Maligned & Miraculous Women in Scripture,” Winters and author-contributors explore stories of women in the Bible who have dealt with these emotions and reveal insights about God and human nature that offer opportunities for readers to connect, reflect and learn.
“Marginalized, Maligned & Miraculous Women in Scripture” examines biblical women from beloved matriarchs Sarah and Rebekah and little-known Rizpah and Sheerah to the maligned Jezebel and Michal and unnamed women known only by their foreign status. This provocative collection of small-group studies will help readers to do the following:
- rediscover known and lesser-known biblical figures;
- understand how their stories intersect with the stories of others;
- learn from the challenges faced by women, then and now; and
- become inspired to live victoriously by faith.
Ideal for women pursuing a faith-filled approach to life’s trials and triumphs, this resource is written by a diverse group of contributors from a variety of denominations and cultures. Featuring questions for personal reflection or small-group study, chapters may be used individually or as one of three five-week studies.
Ordained in the United Church of Christ, Winters has served in settled and transitional pastorates. She is an associate professor at Eastern University’s Palmer Theological Seminary. In addition, she is a professional certified coach. Winters and her husband founded the nonprofit God’s Precious Children organization to provide young people in need a better chance for a brighter future through education. She is also editor of the award-winning “Through Her Eyes: Bible Studies on Women in Scripture” (Judson Press, 2016) and contributor to “Who Killed Goliath?” (Judson Press, 2001), “The Pastor’s Bible Study, Vol. 3” (2006) and “The Minister’s Annual Manual” (since 2008).
