ABHMS Calls National Coordinator for Mission Response
VALLEY FORGE, PA (5/10/23)—American Baptist Home Mission Societies (ABHMS) is pleased to announce that the Rev. Sandra Lee answered the call to join ABHMS’ Healing & Transforming Communities team as national coordinator for mission response. In this vital role, her portfolio includes coordinating volunteer opportunities, working with others to coordinate American Baptist disaster response, and promoting the ministry of ABHMS partners who are strengthening communities throughout the United States and Puerto Rico.
“Sandra’s passion for building connections and relationships will be invaluable in her work with ABHMS,” said Dr. Jeffrey Haggray, executive director of the organization. Director of Healing & Transforming Communities unit, the Rev. Lisa Harris Lee, added, “Sandra is eager to build upon ABHMS’ reputation of volunteer mobilization and disaster response in a way that deepens connection with God, connection with others, and nurtures greater awareness and compassion that is connected to justice.”
In her new position, Rev. Lee sees the opportunity to blend her ministry passions and experiences collaborating with people and communities in need. “We do not just go out to serve others but to come alongside them and work together. I am excited to offer American Baptists the opportunity to develop relationships in communities outside their own. Mission experiences can often provide us with moments to hear God’s voice more clearly,” she said.
Rev. Lee has served at Lakeshore Baptist Church in Oakland, California; the National Asian Caucus/Asian Alliance; and the Evergreen Baptist region. In addition to her church and denominational experience, she has worked in the insurance industry, which she sees as beneficial to her work at ABHMS in disaster response management.
Lee holds a Master of Divinity from Graduate Theological Union/American Baptist Seminary of the West (now Berkeley School of Theology) and a Bachelor of Arts in Social Welfare from the University of California-Berkeley.
