ABHMS encourages attendance at ‘Ending Mass Incarceration’ event

Committed to public witness and advocacy, American Baptist Home Mission Societies (ABHMS) encourages American Baptists to attend “Ending Mass Incarceration: Let My People Go,” a national conference to be held June 17-19 at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Atlanta.

The three-day event at this historic American Baptist church—spiritual home of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.—will feature dynamic keynote speakers, including the Right Rev. Robert Wright, bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta; Michelle Alexander, author of “The New Jim Crow”; Madeline McClenney, founder of ExodusFoundation.org; Lydia Medwin, rabbi at The Temple, Atlanta; and the Rev. Dr. Raphael Warnock, senior pastor at Ebenezer.

Plenaries and workshops will offer practical tools for local faith and community organizations and activists to address the issues of today’s prison industrial complex and to advocate on behalf of those affected by it. In addition, the event will include film screenings, a “Juneteenth Conscious Cook-out,” reception and networking, and solitary-confinement virtual reality.

The event is convened by Ebenezer Baptist Church; Auburn Theological Seminary, New York City; and The Temple.
