Registration opens for ABHMS’ ‘Connect 2018’; young clergy encouraged to participate
VALLEY FORGE, PA (ABNS 4/11/18)—American Baptist Home Mission Societies (ABHMS) encourages American Baptist clergy in their 20s, 30s and early 40s to register for “Connect 2018,” the first gathering of its American Baptist Young Adult Clergy Network, planned for June 25-28 at Lake Street Baptist Church, Evanston, Ill. Registration is open for this exciting premier event to feature opportunities for retreat, spiritual formation and professional development.
“The concept for Connect began with conversations at Mission Summit. An informal network of young adult clergy wanted a more formal way to get together, learn together and share ideas,” says the Rev. Sarah Strosahl-Kagi, director of ABHMS’ Emerging Leaders program. “What excites me is the grassroots nature of this event. It’s not ABHMS saying to young clergy, ‘Come to this event.’ It’s young clergy saying to ABHMS, ‘We want this event. How can we partner to make it happen?’”
Learning sessions will feature fresh faces guaranteed to inspire, as attendees connect with peers, resources, themselves and God; cultivate leadership ability, skills and relationships; and transform personally and professionally with an eye toward the future.
“Entering ministry was like a walk in the wilderness for me. I had no idea where I was going. Connect is the path I wish I had when I started.,” says the Rev. Douglas Avilesbernal, Connect 2018 planning committee member and executive minister of Evergreen Association of American Baptist Churches. “Connect ’18 is a must for anyone getting started in ministry.”
Cost is $350 for a shared room or $700 for a single room. Seminarians pay $250.
