ABHMS Staff Christmas Project 2020

staff christmas project 2020

For more than three decades, American Baptist Home Mission Societies (ABHMS) has reached out to children and families at Christmas. This year’s partnership with the Health and Human Services department of Montgomery County, Pa., has raised close to $3,000 for toys and coats for the county’s children.

ABHMS staff contributed $1,700 to the project, surpassing the project’s $1,000 goal, and ABHMS matched the first $1,000 with a promised grant, bringing the total raised to $2,700—at last count, donations were still coming in.

“One of my greatest joys, as the ABHMS Human Resources director,” says Dr. Laura Miraz, “is coordinating our annual Christmas project. Our staff have always donated generously to support initiatives focused on bringing Christmas joy to children and youth. This year’s initiative, however, in spite of the pandemic, has proven to be one of the most generous I have witnessed since I began coordinating the project years ago.”

“Santa Laura” and her staff “elves” packed and unloaded two-plus overstuffed car loads of toys and coats (bundled in black bags) purchased from Costco, Kohls and CVS at Montgomery County offices early this week.

The drive collected these Christmas gifts for children ages 2 – 10 in the third largest county in Pennsylvania, where the ABHMS Leadership and Mission Building is located.
