As American Baptist Home Mission Societies’ national coordinator of Asian Ministries, the Rev. Florence Li ministers with churches that serve first-, second- and third-generation immigrant communities representing more than 20 different languages.
A member of the denomination’s Burma Refugees Commission, she advocates for the ethnic people of Myanmar (formerly known as Burma), who have experienced religious persecution and human rights violations. Along with other commission members, she has traveled to the U.S. State Department in Washington D.C., the United Nations High Commission for Refugees in Malaysia and Thailand as well as to the U.S. Embassy in Thailand and Myanmar.
Her goal is to strengthen the ministries of Asian churches, empower their leadership and build relationships with the larger American Baptist family.
“American Baptist Churches USA is such a diverse denomination,” she says. “But we are all one people under God, seeking to serve Christ and each other.”
