As national coordinator for Karen Ministries and a commissioned home missionary who serves immigrants from Burma—now known as Myanmar—the Rev. Saw Ler Htoo seeks to solidify partnerships among American Baptist Churches USA and refugee and immigrant congregations. He works in partnership with American Baptist Home Mission Societies and Karen Baptist Churches USA to strengthen church ministries, empower leadership and build relationships with the larger American Baptist family.

He is excited about helping newcomers to the United States not only with church formation and spiritual development but also with leadership development in the larger community as well as in church. He enjoys meeting with newcomer families and spending time to exchange knowledge and experiences with them.

“I want to help them to be good citizens to contribute to the country in which they belong and live,” he says.

He has been prepared for the challenge by his previous roles as a pastor and teacher as well as an individual who just plain cares about the welfare of others.

In his spare time, he enjoys traveling to experience the beauty of God’s creation.
